Description
Back in 2002, Nashville was still dubious about The Gulch. The area of downtown had been home to industrial warehouses and entertainment of the adult variety, not so much family friendly restaurants. But, thanks in part to the urban pioneering of Atlanta based chain Ru San’s, the area started to shift into the thriving (and angel winged) commercial district we have today. Ru San’s was a Japanese restaurant originally marketed as “the rock-n-roll sushi bar.” The moniker didn’t last but the restaurant did.
For thirteen years, Ru San’s served up throbbing techno, a massive menu of affordable sushi (including a lunch buffet) and plenty of celebrity diners thanks to the proximity to the City Hall venue (Broken Social Scene, I see you). The restaurant eventually got priced out of The Gulch and moved to Hillsboro Village in 2016. It’s not clear when it officially closed but it’s nothing more than a memory these days.
