Description

The history of 91.1 WRVU goes back as far as 1951 and includes some juicy pirate radio shenanigans. Officially speaking, the FM station broadcast over the airwaves from 1973 to 2011  filling Nashville with an unbelievably eclectic offering of college rock, indie, hip-hop and absolutely everything in between – all selected by Vanderbilt students and Nashville community members.

In late 2009, Vanderbilt decided to sell the station to Nashville Public Radio. After many years and much public outcry, the broadcast ceased on June 7, 2011 around 3pm with New Order’s “Waiting for the Sirens’ Call.”

It’s not all bad news tho; out of its ashes was born community radio station WXNA and “The Nashville Experience” WNXP.
