Description
It’s hard to imagine these days but there was once a time when physical bookstores were a cultural destination. Patrons would develop relationships with the staff to get insights on the latest releases and authors that fit their genre tastes. This was before internet shopping and recommendation algorithms. Davis-Kidd Booksellers was one of those locations and it operated from October 1980 to December 2010, thirty years of continuous operation. Not too shabby.
While the final version of the shop was inside Green Hills Mall, the iteration that most remember is now the Tennessee Bank & Trust building next door to Trader Joe’s. It was vast and expansive. It was warm and inviting. It was a phenomenal bookstore and a sorely missed staple of the city.
Anyone desiring to pay tribute should visit their local bookstore. They’d be happy to see you.
