Description
Behind San Antonio Taco Company on Scarritt Place is a wonderfully strange Alamo-shaped building; once a residence and now a restaurant. Currently Helen’s Hot Chicken and Crescent Seafood before that, it housed the beloved New England style pizzeria, Guido’s from 1990 through the early aughts. The restaurant doubled as a small capacity venue and had a penchant for booking local and independent touring acts. If you grew up going to Guido’s, you likely know the Dahlia Llamas or Cary Ann Hearst before she founded Shovels & Rope.
Patrons may also remember a somewhat strange assortment of pizza combinations; the “The What’s That Pizza?” with Indian Cashews, the “The Guido Chicken Salad Pizza” or “The Alaskan” topped with salmon. These paled in comparison to the traditional signature pizzas but it’s worth noting that they existed.
Guido’s eventually closed the Nashville location, moved the establishment to Franklin and rebranded as Cool Springs Brewery, which closed in early 2022.
