Description
Hillsboro Village has undergone a great deal of changes since the mid 2010’s. Beloved locations like Bookman, BookWoman, Jackson’s Bar & Grill, Bosco’s and Sunset Grill all closed their doors. Another longstanding staple of the strip was Pangaea; a retail spot at the corner of 21st and Belmont, right down from the Belcourt and currently inhabited by a Molly Green.
First opened in 1987 in a Belmont Boulevard location, owner Sandra Shelton built Pangaea to offer a variety of worldly goods. Clothing, jewelry, and gifts from Guatemala, Indonesia, India, Mexico and Africa were regular fair. The collection of sugar skull figures were always a hit.
In 1997, Pangaea moved to Hillsboro Village (taking the old Needlecraft Shoppe spot) and operated successfully until 2019 when Shelton decided to retire. Thirty-two years running a retail business in blossoming Nashville is a massive success story. We miss Pangaea but we’re overjoyed that we had it as long as we did.
