Description
For Nashvillians of a certain age, Starwood Amphitheatre was the destination for their first big outdoor concert. It was an ideal place to be initiated into live music as lawn seats were generally affordable and the dank smell of weed wafted throughout the crowds. Operating from 1986 to 2006, the 17,000 person venue hosted the likes of Aerosmith, New Kids on the Block, Radiohead, Whitney Houston and festivals Lollapalooza and Lillith Fair. Sure, it was located in a tucked away corner of Smyrna but we loved it for that. Ascend Amphitheater has similar vibes but nothing will top rolling down that grass knoll with a second-hand buzz.
