Description

In the year 2000, a new alternative weekly paper called The Rage hit newsstands. It was a pocket sized publication that ran a daily breakdown of upcoming concerts, new restaurants, art openings and the like. Published by The Tennessean, the new paper was meant to appeal to Gen Z and stand on its own outside of OnNashville, a weekly insert included with The Tennessean.

The content coverage was not too far off from the Nashville Scene but, hey, variety is the spice of life!  Each edition was split up by days, making it easy to find exactly what to do on any given time of week. Pretty clever, actually. They also employed a number of notable writers – Jason Moon Wilkins, Heather Byrd and Kristin Whittlesey to name a few.

After four years getting a foothold in town, the publishers decided to rename The Rage to All the Rage, as well as expanding the size from pocket width to tabloid, as this made room for more advertisements. While this wasn’t a drastic change from the original, it felt like a new publication – particularly with the new logo and new size. After four more years, All The Rage was deprecated by The Tennessean’s parent company (Gannet) and replaced with Metro Mix, a less local version of similar entertainment content. So it goes.

Strangely, there is very little evidence of The Rage outside of the website archive. A few ads here and there but rarely even an eBay listing of old physical papers! A shame, since it was a rather notable piece of Nashville history.
